Course Description: Leaders from six different churches will present the traditions and doctrines of their religion. This is a six-week course.

Class Leader Bio(s): Dolores Noechel is a former Ruckel math teacher, OCSD Instructional Technology and Media Services Specialist, and Assistant Principal at Fort Walton Beach High School.

Notes: This six week class will meet on January 15, 22, 29, and February 5, 12, and 19.

England from Marlborough to Thatcher

Class Leader Bio(s): Dan received his Ph.D. in history from Auburn and has taught for Troy and for CLL for over 20 years.

Guide to Estate Planning for FL Residents

Course Description: This course provides an overview of estate planning, probate issues, estate taxes, Medicaid planning, asset protection, and guardianship.

Class Leader Bio(s): J. Mark Fisher received his Juris Doctorate from Mississippi College School of Law in 1984. He has limited his practice to the field of Estate Planning, Probate, Wills and Trusts, and Nursing Home Medicaid Planning for over 30 years and has been teaching classes at UWF for 29 years. J. Mark Fisher has offices in FWB, Pensacola, and Panama City.

Notes: There is a non-refundable $15 materials fee.

Painters and Their Passions

Course Description: Learn more about Artists and the paintings you know and some you will have fun finding out about. This will be a combination of Classes I and II with a few new things thrown in. This is a 6-week class.

Class Leader Bio(s): Judy Faust loves to travel, and everywhere she goes she looks for museums, galleries and art exhibits to visit. She’s taken lots of pictures and has lots of information she wants to share.

Notes: 6-week class meeting January 15, 22, 29, and February 5, 12, and 19.

Pickleball – Intermediate 11:30 – 1:00

Course Description: This class is designed for the pickleball player who has a basic understanding of the rules of the game, knows how to score and can serve and return the ball consistently. The class will be run with 30 minutes of drills, 30 minutes of instructed game play, then 30 minutes of open play.

Class Leader Bio(s): Danny McKinney has been playing pickleball for 2 years and loves sharing and playing the sport with others. Cyndie Hale knew before she took her 1st lesson she would love the game, has now loved the game for 1 year and loves sharing the sport with others.

Notes: Please bring your paddle. If you don’t have one, we have a few that can be borrowed. Gym shoes are required, preferably court shoes.

American Civil War

Course Description: Frank’s four classes will be: introductory summary of 4 years of the Civil War, class on the Peninsula Campaign, class on the Overland Campaign, on the 4th class the students will choose one from 14 different subjects. Helen’s classes will deal with women’s roles and more interesting tales of this great war.

Class Leader Bio(s): Frank Gray is from East Tennessee and is a retired U.S. Air Force helicopter pilot. Frank and Helen have been teaching this class since 2009. Helen Harris has been involved with art her whole life, all mediums, with encaustic becoming a favorite. She has been teaching it for about 13 years. She’s a board member or ADSO, OPA, OAA, CAL and owns HH Arts.

Basic Genealogy

Course Description: This class is a basic genealogy class and will include elements from prior beginning, introductory, and fundamentals classes. The intent of this class is to build and reinforce a foundation of genealogical concepts and techniques to help the participant understand the genealogy research process. The class includes eight 90-minute sessions of structured presentation, plus class participation.

Class Leader Bio(s): Ed Pfeifer is a retired classroom teacher, school administrator, curriculum coordinator, and Deputy Chief of Education for the Department of Defense Dependents Schools in the Pacific Area. He has been researching his family history for more than twenty-five years.

Notes: Class participants should bring a desire to use the skills and techniques taught in the class to extend their knowledge of their family’s history.

Beginner American Mah Jongg

Course Description: Discover the joy, strategy, and community of American Mah jongg in this engaging, beginner-friendly course. You’ll learn the fundamentals of this classic tile game, including understanding the National Mah Jongg League card to form winning hands and play with confidence. This class is designed for adults who are brand new to the game. Each week combines instruction, guided practice, and play, allowing you to build skills at a comfortable pace. Mahjong is not only mentally stimulating, but also a wonderful way to connect with others and sharpen memory, focus, and strategy. All materials provided!

Class Leader Bio(s): Morgan Smith has been playing American Mah Jongg for almost 2 years, and teaching for 6 months. She is a Fort Walton Beach native and she and her husband of 10 years have 2 beautiful children. When she isn’t playing Mahjong, you can find her volunteering at her childrens’ school.

Notes: No experience or materials required.
