Course Description: Welcome to Justice Potpourri, an engaging sampler of the most fascinating, complex, and misunderstood corners of the modern criminal justice system. We will go far beyond the sensational headlines to explore how changing data, cutting-edge technology, and shifting societal values are completely rewriting the rules of crime and punishment.  

Instructor Bio: Dr. Kathy Johnson received a BS in 1987 and MS in 1989 in Criminal Justice from Illinois State University. Her PhD in Criminology is from Indiana University in Pennsylvania. She has been a faculty member in Criminology and Criminal Justice at UWF since August 2000.

Course Description:  With help from the instructor, you will create several acrylic paintings of landscapes and seascapes. No experience is necessary. This is a 4-week double session class. There is a $40 non-refundable fee.

Instructor Bio:  Pat Roberts is a local artist. She is an active member of the Arts and Design Society and Okaloosa Public Arts. Pat exhibits as well as teaches at ADSO and HH Arts.

Additional Notes:  This is a double session 4-week course meeting September 10, 17, 24 and October 1. There is a $40 non-refundable supply fee due at the first class.

Course Description:  Yoga Gentle Flow is conducive to beginning or continuing a gentle Vinyasa Yoga practice to reduce stress, improve resilience & balance, emphasizing breath with the movement. This is a 7-week class.

Instructor Bio:  Annette Seda has Yoga Alliance 200-HR RYT certification.

Notes: This is a 7-week class meeting on September 10, 17, 24, October 1, 8, 15 and 22. Please bring your own yoga mat. A small blanket, blocks, strap are optional. VFW Post 7674 213 Carol Ave NW Ft. Walton Beach, FL.

Course Description:  This class is designed for beginning students of the game of pickleball or those who need a brush up on the basics of the game. During class, we will teach the rules of the game, scoring, serving and game play. The class will consist of 30 minutes of drills and 30 minutes of instructed play. 

Instructor Bio:  Danny McKinney has been playing pickleball for 3 years and loves sharing and playing the sport with others.

Cyndie Hale knew before she took her first lesson she would love the game, has now loved the game for 2 years and loves sharing the sport with others.

Additional Notes:  Please bring your paddle. If you don’t have one, we have a few that can be borrowed. Gym shoes are required, preferably court shoes.

Course Description: This course provides an overview of estate planning, probate issues, estate taxes, Medicaid planning, asset protection, and guardianship. 

Instructor Bio: J. Mark Fisher received his Juris Doctorate from Mississippi College School of Law in 1984. He has limited his practice to the field of Estate Planning, Probate, Wills and Trusts, and Nursing Home Medicaid Planning for 36 years and has been teaching classes at UWF for 30 years.  J. Mark Fisher has written three books on the topic of Estate Planning, and has offices in FWB, Pensacola, and Panama City.  

Notes: There is a non-refundable $15 materials fee.

Course Description:  This class goes beyond the content in the “Basic Genealogy” course. Introductory genealogy topics and content will be enriched and expanded to provide greater functionality to your researching skills. Additional techniques and strategies will be introduced to help locate and identify ancestral connections.   Standardized methods for documenting and sharing research findings will be demonstrated. 

Instructor Bio:  Ed Pfeifer is a retired classroom teacher, school administrator, curriculum coordinator, and Deputy Chief of Education for the Department of Defense Dependents Schools in the Pacific Area.  He has been researching his family for more than twenty-five years.

Additional Notes:  Class participants should be prepared to participate in the research of their family’s history by using the skills and techniques taught in the class.  Completion of Beginning Geneaology is NOT required.
