Chair Yoga
with Lura Struzinski
Course Description: No need to get up and down from the floor. Classes will be conducted seated in a chair or standing position. Please wear comfortable clothing. Parking and entrance is in the back of the building. Please arrive 15 minutes before class time to use the restroom and get set up for class to start on time. 6-week class starting January 23.

Class Leader Bio(s): Lura is a Certified 500hr Registered Yoga Teacher. She has been teaching the softer side yoga such as Restorative, Gentle, and Beginners classes for the last 8 years and practicing yoga for 17 years.
Beginning Knitting
with Kristine Matthews
Course Description: There is so much more to knitting than just Knit 1 and Purl 2. Come join us to learn the basic knit stitch and purl stitch and expand those skills to include casting on, increases, decreases, lace work, in-the-round projects and pattern reading. Once you learn these building blocks, you can make hats, mittens, scarves, sweaters, shawls, blankets, socks and so much more. This is a 7-week class starting January 24.
Notes: This is a 7-week class starting January 24. The class requires around 200 yards of worsted weight yarn (not cotton) and a pair of size 8 straight or circular needles. You have the option of purchasing these supplies from me on the first day of class for $15.
Class Leader Bio(s): Kristine Matthews initially learned to knit in a junior high school home economics class and she picked it back up when she was pregnant with her second child. That was 22 years ago and today she’s rarely without a pretty yarn and needles somewhere close by.
Tour of Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge

Course Description: Take a walk on the wild side at Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge where you will meet wild animal ambassadors, learn facts about Florida’s native species, and see the magic of wildlife rehabilitation. The tour is on Friday, January 24 from 10:30 - 12:30.

Class Leader Bio(s): ECWR Conservation and Rehab educator, Emma, will be our guide. For three years, she has been passionately inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards and connecting people of all ages to Florida’s native wildlife.
Introduction to Machine Embroidery

Course Description: This is the course to take if you are curious about or interested in starting a hobby in machine embroidery! We will complete 6 basic embroidery projects to build confidence at the process of machine embroidery. We will be using BERNINA embroidery machines provided by Stitcher’s Quest for this class. This is a 6-week starting January 27.
Notes: 6-week class meeting January 27, February 3, 10, 17, 24 and March 3. Stitcher’s Quest will provide embroidery machines for students to use during class – 2 students per machine. Students will work through projects together with the instructor. A $80 kit fee will be collected at the first class to cover supplies: stabilizers, threads, fabric and miscellaneous items needed for class. Students should bring basic sewing tools to class (snips, seam ripper, pins, etc).
Class Leader Bio(s): April Jaehn has been working at SQ for 7 years. She is retired military and an avid quilter. She travels extensively for Embroidery Online teaching machine embroidery at sewing centers around the country.Margaret Kota has been with SQ for 6 years and is the on-staff expert for Kimberbell Embroidery Designs. She is a retired Speech Therapist and the current president of a local quilt guild.
Tour of Magnolia Grill

Course Description: The Magnolia Grill is located at 157 Brooks Street in downtown Fort Walton Beach and is equal parts museum and restaurant. The home was ordered from a 1910 Sears Catalog and then constructed in Fort Walton Beach. The home is filled with pieces of local and military history. Tom and Peggy Rice, the owners, have deep family roots which are evident at every turn. Tom Rice will lead you through the entire restaurant explaining the significance of many of the items. He will also walk you around the outside of the home to explain the unique construction. You will be amazed at how much you will learn from Tom about the history of our city. This tour will meet Tuesday, January 28 from 9:30 to 11:00.
Notes: This one-day tour of the Magnolia Grill (157 Brooks Street SE, Fort Walton Beach) will meet 9:30 to 11:00, on Tuesday, January 28. Following the tour, you are invited and encouraged to stay for a Dutch-treat lunch to meet other tour attendees and enjoy the vast and varied menu.
Class Leader Bio(s): Tom Rice is not only a restaurant owner but a pillar of the Fort Walton Beach community having won many awards for his civic contributions. To name just a few, he received the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award by establishing the Fisher House of the Emerald Coast for veterans and their families, serves on the Board of Directors of Veterans Florida raising funds to construct the Veterans Tribute Tower at Beal Memorial Cemetery, and many more.
Beginning Quilting Projects – Table Runners

Course Description: Why do people love to quilt? Reasons include: Creating heirlooms and warm gifts, enjoying the mental stimulation of math, problem solving, and design, expressing creativity and artistry, connecting with other creative people. Learning to quilt is a journey and this course will start you on the path with two table runner projects. We will discuss and practice the basic techniques, from color choices to final binding, for a successful quilt. This is a 6-week class starting January 30.
Notes: 6-week class meeting January 30, February 6, 13, 20, 27 and March 6. A copy of Start Quilting by Alex Anderson is required and can be purchased at Stitcher’s Quest. This book was also purchased by Beginning Quilting students from 2024. A kit fee of $80 will be collected to cover fabric and batting for both projects. Registered students should come to Stitcher’s Quest during week of Jan 21 to pay kit fee and choose their fabric. Fabric should be pressed prior to first class. Students should bring basic sewing tools (scissors, seam ripper, pins, etc.) BERNINA sewing machines will be provided for use during class. Tour of Cookie Decorating with Sundy

Course Description: Join Sundy for a special hands-on class in cookie decorating. Participants will learn techniques to produce your own designs as you create your cookie to take home. You can view Sundy’s artistry on Facebook and Instagram@Keichel Cookies. This one time class will meet on Friday, January 31, 10:00 to 11:30 at the UWF Classroom Café in the Library.

Tour of The Board Chef
with Annmarie McArthur
Course Description: Each student will build and take home their own cheese and charcuterie board with ingredients sourced and provided by The Board Chef. You will taste and cut a minimum of 8 cheeses, 3 charcuterie items, learn how to make salami roses and have an opportunity to play with added accoutrements such as dried fruits, olives and sweetie peppers. This tour will meet on Monday, February 3rd at 10:00 and last between 1.5 to 2 hours. Fee of $25 will be collected at the door to cover ingredient costs.
Notes: This one-time tour will meet on Monday, February 3, 10:00 to 11:30 or 12:00 at 322 Harbor Place SW, Fort Walton Beach. This is Annmarie’s residence. There is plenty of street parking available. A fee of $25 will be collected at the door to cover the cost of the ingredients. Class Leader Bio(s): Annmarie has been in the food industry since her first job at the age of 14 in a southern California pie shop. Since then, she has worked on every side of the amazing industry, not only as a Brands Manager for a national broad liner as a center of the plate specialist, but as a successful entrepreneur. She took a leap during Covid, took out every tool, called on every business relationship she had, made a plan, moved to Fort Walton Beach and started The Board Chef.
