Golf 101

Course Description: This course will cover all aspects of golf for the novice, to include etiquette, terminology, grip, what club to use, etc.

Notes: The class meets at the Shalimar Point Golf Course, a $5.00 per person per session fee to cover cost of all needed supplies (clubs, balls, tees, etc.) will be collected.

Class Leader Bio(s): Floyd Clarkson has been a golf club professional for 20 years and has taught golf professionally for 30 years.

Course Description: Want to expand your social skills while having fun? This class will give you an opportunity to do that by learning new board and card games. Come join us and learn some new games, and get refreshed on old standards. 6-week class.

Notes: 6 -week class meeting January 16, 23, 30, February 6, 13 and 20.

Class Leader Bio(s): Karen Lauer is an experienced artist and CLL class leader. She loves to play games and introduced Wizard to the CLL community and camp conferences. Den Lauer is a retired Navy Flight Officer who sat around a lot so has years of experience playing games!

Beginner Mah Jongg

Course Description: This class will teach you how to play Mah Jongg using the National Mah Jongg League rules. This a 7-weeks class.

Notes: This will be a 7 -week class meeting January 17, 24, 31, February 7, 14, 28 and March 6. Bring an open mind and a pen.

Class Leader Bio(s): Donna Gross taught Mah Jongg for over 10 years at the Adult School in Chatham, NJ. Newly relocated to Fort Walton Beach, she would like to bring this game to the Emerald Coast.

Dog Tricks, Treats, Games, and Play

Course Description: If you enjoy being active with your dog and learning together, you’ll love this class. Our goal is to be engaged with our dogs through interactive play and games. Learn marker words, how to charge a clicker, nose and paw targeting, transfer of value, release words, reinforcement zones, when to name a command, and proofing behaviors. Each class builds on techniques learned in previous lessons. Many of the tricks have enormous value in our daily lives, such as picking up objects, closing doors, and fetching keys.

Notes: The first class will meet at the NW Florida Fair Grounds. Parking information will be provided by email after registration. All classes will be held outdoors. All dogs must have basic obedience skills and good behavior in a class setting. This is not a class for correcting behavior problems. No aggressive dogs or aggressive handlers! Current vaccinations required, please bring your records to the first class.

Class Leader Bio(s): Tammie Bertrand has owned dogs all her life. While working with her current three dogs, one of them being a service dog in training, she became interested in tricks and games and how they improve the learning experience for both owner and dog. She is thrilled to share her knowledge. Margot Penner is the owner of a service dog and a service dog in training. She was a dog training instructor at CLL for a number of years and is now volunteering her time as a pet photographer.

Pickleball - Intermediate

Course Description: This class is designed for the pickleball player who has a basic understanding of the rules of the game, knows how to score and can serve and return the ball consistently. The class will be run with 30 minutes of drills and 30 minutes of instructed game play.

Notes: Please bring your paddle.  If you don’t have one, we have a few that can be borrowed. Gym shoes are required, preferably court shoes.

Class Leader Bio(s): Carol Achtien has been playing pickleball for many years and loves sharing and playing the sport with others. Stan Budzinski has been playing pickleball for a year and loves sharing and playing the sport with others.

The class will consist of 30 minutes of drills and 30 minutes of instructed play. 

Notes: Please bring your paddle.  If you don’t have one, we have a few that can be borrowed. Gym shoes are required, preferably court shoes.
