Tai Chi at Mathis Martial Arts

Course Description: Originally developed for self-defense, tai chi has evolved into a graceful form of exercise that's now used for stress reduction and a variety of other health conditions. Often described as meditation in motion, tai chi promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements.
Class Leader Bio(s): Kevin Mathis and his whole family have been teaching Martial Arts in Fort Walton Beach for over 35 years. Kevin is a 9th degree black belt and has traveled & taught all over the world.
Senior Dance Fitness with Sundy (formerly Zumba Gold)

Course Description: Senior Dance Fitness is designed for the active older adult or beginner. A goal of the class is to move a little and have a lot of fun! A variety of rhythms are used for a low-impact cardio workout that will help improve balance, circulation, strength, and flexibility. All moves can be modified to suit your needs and abilities.
Class Leader Bio(s): Sundy Keichel has been teaching fitness classes since 2010. She currently teaches Senior Dance Fitness, Pilates, and Senior Conditioning in FWB.
Notes: Wear comfortable shoes/clothing and bring water. Classes meet in the gymnasium at Fort Walton Beach Rec Center, 132 Jet Dr, FWB.
Pickleball - Beginners

Course Description: This class is designed for beginning students of the game of pickleball or those who need a brush up on the basics of the game. During class, we will teach the rules of the game, scoring, serving and game play. The class will consist of 30 minutes of drills and 30 minutes of instructed play.
Class Leader Bio(s): Carol Achtien and Dan Vanaskie have been playing pickleball and teaching beginners’ pickleball at CLL for several years. They enjoy sharing their love of the game with others, especially beginners, focusing on skills but also on the social, fun aspect of the game.
Notes: Please bring a paddle. If you don’t have one, we will have a few extras to borrow. Balls will be provided. Gym shoes are required, preferably court shoes. FWB Rec Center 132 Jet Drive NW FWB
Thai Chi for Arthritis

Course Description: Tai Chi for Arthritis is a gentle way of strengthening the body, becoming more flexible, and improving balance.
Class Leader Bio(s): Mary Murkland is a certified instructor for Tai Chi for Arthritis 1 & 2, and seated Tai Chi.
Notes: All enrollees should check with their health care provider before taking the class.
Pickleball – Intermediate (11:30 – 12:30)

Course Description: This class is designed for the pickleball player who has a basic understanding of the rules of the game, knows how to score and can serve and return the ball consistently. The class will be run with 30 minutes of drills and 30 minutes of instructed game play.
Class Leader Bio(s): Stan Budzinski has been playing pickleball for 3 years and loves sharing and playing the sport with others. Danny McKinney has been playing pickleball for 2 years and loves sharing and playing the sport with others.
Notes: Please bring your paddle. If you don’t have one, we have a few that can be borrowed. Gym shoes are required, preferably court shoes.

Essentrics®️ Aging Backwards®️ (New Routine)
with Diane Poff

Course Description: A slow and gentle workout that focuses on increasing mobility, flexibility and relieving pain and joint stiffness. This routine concludes with 12 minutes of floor work. Essentrics®️ is seen on PBS as Classical Stretch.
Class Leader Bio(s): Diane Poff is a Level 1 Certified Essentrics®️ Aging Backwards®️ instructor and has been teaching for over two years. She enjoys helping others experience the benefits of this highly effective exercise program. Diane’s hobbies include kayaking, bicycling, watercolor painting, and traveling.
Notes: Please bring an exercise mat approximately 3/8” thick and a beach towel. This routine concludes with floor work. As with any exercise program, please check with your Healthcare provider before beginning.
Aquacise

Course Description: It's a low-impact workout that provides a full-body exercise experience, utilizing the water's natural resistance to give an easy and fun workout while minimizing stress on joints. This is a 5-week class meeting on September 13, 20, 27, October 4 and 11.
Class Leader Bio(s): Karen has been teaching mindful art therapy and has incorporated water therapy to help get your mind and body on the same page.
