Beginner Watercolor Painting

Course Description: Using Techniques and tricks make watercolors fun! We will cover basic use of the medium, brushes and paper. This will include introducing techniques and practice to paint various subjects such as flowers, trees, landscape, etc. Bring pictures if you wish.
Notes: $40 class fee for paints, paper and brushes. Students should bring a pencil, two containers for water, masking tape, paper towels, kneaded eraser and any watercolor supplies you have. Please mask if you feel it necessary. This class will meet in the Paint Room at ADSO.
Class Leader Bio(s): Carolyn Williams is the owner of Sand Dollar Cottage, an artist’s cooperative in Navarre. She paints in watercolors, acrylics, pen and ink. She has been painting for about 25 years and has a BS and MS degree.
Intermediate Watercolor- So much to learn!

Course Description: This course will build on some previous knowledge of watercolors. Class projects will assist students in using new techniques. Students can bring pictures they might want to use also.
Notes: Supply fee for class is $40, which includes paint, paper and use of brushes and pallets. Bring paper towels, pencil, kneaded eraser, two containers for water and any watercolor supplies you may have.

Creative Fused Glass A

Course Description: Fused glass creations are beautiful and easy to create. This is not stained glass or blown glass but is known as kiln formed glass. During the 4-week class we will make 4 projects with sheet glass, noodles, stringers and dots of glass. We will fire your projects bi-weekly in our kilns. You’ll learn new techniques in glass every class and can make dishes, suncatchers and two other projects. The art glass we are using is handmade, very unique and beautiful. It is very expensive glass and we fire the pieces in the kiln for up to two firings that take almost 24 hours each. You will be amazed at what you create! 4-week class meeting January 14, 28, February 11, 25. This is the same as Creative Fused Glass B.
Notes: There is a $45 per class fee ($180 total) to cover materials and firing. If you pay for the classes in full at the first class, the charge will be $40.00 per class. ($160 total)This is a 4-week class meeting alternate Tuesdays January 14, 28, February 11 and 25. This gives us ample time to fire your projects in our kilns.Students need to wear closed toed shoes (like sneakers) in the studio. Let’s Paint!

Course Description: This is a congenial group with no pressure or “must do.” Each week is a different subject, with photographs or painted examples.
Notes: This is a 7-week course, beginning January 14 and ending with examples of our work at Final Follies. This class will meet in the Clay Room at ADSO.
Class Leader Bio(s): Dan and Donna are members of the Arts and Design Society and the Emerald Coast Plein Air Painters, and they work mainly in watercolor.
Zentangle (R) Inspired Art…It’s the Next Step!

Course Description: Have you taken an Introduction to Zentangle class and want to learn more about enhancing your Zentangle creations? Then Zentangle Inspired Art (ZIA) is for you! This class requires that you have studied the basics of the Zetangle Method. We will take this meditative art form further as we enhance our original Zentangle drawings with highlighting, color, and creativity. This class will meet on Zoom, and students will be required to purchase their own supplies. 6-week class starting January 15.
Notes: Zentangle Inspired Art requires that you have studied the Zentangle Method. This is a 6-class starting January 15. To participate, you must have access to personal internet plus technology capable of using the Zoom app. Students will be responsible for purchasing their own supplies.
Class Leader Bio(s): Shannon Flynn is a retired classroom teacher who found Zentangle in 2020 and fell in love. She had never before been successful at any visual art form, but the Zentangle Method changed that! In 2020 she attended the international seminar to become a Certified Zentangle Teacher and started teaching small classes locally. Shannon also leads an online group of tanglers called Fabtangling Fun as they participate in guided tangling twice monthly. She has been a guest instructor at two Zenjo Zentangle retreats, 2022 in Wisconsin and 2023 in Wales, UK.
Beginners Crochet

Course Description: You will learn basic crochet terms, stitches and work on projects.
Notes: There is an $18 supply fee payable at the first class to cover the supplies needed.
Class Leader Bio(s): Barbie Brink was born #12 of 14 children in Ohio. In 1997 she left Campbell’s Soup to open a special occasion/bridal seamstress and Embroidery business and crocheting was a welcome way to relax. In 2020 she moved to Florida and started a quest to master the art of making Amigurumi, which is the art of making dolls and animals.
Painters and Their Passions

Course Description: Learn more about Artists and the paintings you know and some you will have fun finding out about. We will start with impressionists and move from Monet to more modern ones, like Moudigliani and O’Keefffe. This is a 4-week class.

Class Leader Bio(s): Judy Faust loves to travel, and everywhere she goes she looks for museums, galleries and art exhibits to visit. She’s taken lots of pictures and has lots of information she wants to share.
Introduction to the Zentangle (R) Method

Course Description: Do you wish you could draw? If you can write your name, you can learn to create beautiful and interesting drawings with The Zentangle Method. Zentangle is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. It increases focus and creativity, provides artistic satisfaction along with an increased sense of personal well-being, and is enjoyed all over the world. No artistic talent or previous experience is required. This class takes the learner from the very basics of the Zentangle Method through the ability to create Zentangle Inspired Art. Students who complete the 5 classes will qualify to join a free Zoom group that meets twice monthly and is led by Shannon Flynn, another Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT) in the area who also teaches Zentangle through the CLL program.
Notes: This is a 5-session IN PERSON class, meeting January 16, 23, 30, February 6 and 13. At the first class you will purchase a Zentangle Toolkit, containing the supplies we’ll use, for a fee of $18. The class will meet in Room 1 at the Niceville Senior Center
Class Leader Bio(s): Lynn Walton was happily working as a software engineer for almost 30 years, when Zentangle waltzed into her life unexpectedly in early 2023. She fell in love. She had not previously been engaged with any kind of visual art form, but with the Zentangle Method, she found a new way to explore and express her creativity. In September 2023, she became a Certified Zentangle Teacher. She has since semi-retired in order to have more time to share the joy of this wonderful meditative art form with others. This is a 5-week class.
