Course Description: Using Techniques and tricks make watercolors fun! We will cover basic use of the medium, brushes and paper. This will include introducing techniques and practice to paint various subjects such as flowers, trees, landscape, etc. Bring pictures if you wish.

Notes: $40 class fee for paints, paper and brushes. Students should bring a pencil, two containers for water, masking tape, paper towels, kneaded eraser and any watercolor supplies you have. Please mask if you feel it necessary.

Class Leader Bio(s): ;Carolyn Williams is the owner of Sand Dollar Cottage, an artist’s cooperative in Navarre. She paints in watercolors, acrylics, pen and ink. She has been painting for about 25 years and has a BS and MS degree.

Beginner Quilting

Course Description: Learn to make a quilt in 7 classes. We will complete a small “Rail Fence” quilt that finishes at approximately 41”x 41”. Students should bring a small pair of scissors, a seam ripper, and sewing pins to class. Classroom sewing machines and other basic tools will be provided during class.

Notes: 7- week class meeting January 16, 23, 30, February 6, 13, 20 and 27. Students will need home access to a sewing machine to finish homework or may stay until 5:00 on class days to use classroom machines. A supply fee of $100 will be collected at first class to cover fabric, thread, batting, & pattern costs. Students will choose fabric for their quilt at first class.

iPhone Photography

Course Description: Which camera takes the best pictures? The one you have with you, of course! In this class, you will learn how to get more out of the iPhone camera. Topics will include becoming a better photographer, adjusting your iPhone camera, editing pictures on your iPhone, photo and video editing, creating and sharing albums, and downloading your iPhone pictures for actual prints to enjoy and share. Sorry, this class is specifically for iPhones/iPads; users of other brands of smartphones may not derive any benefit. This is a 5-week class.

Notes: Bring your iPhone. The class will meet for 5 weeks on January 16, 23, 30, February 20 and 27.

Class Leader Bio(s): Nicole Blatt takes lots of pictures! Her last phone had over 10,000 pics and some were even good. She retired from the USAF in 2011 and now has two awesome 12-year-old sons named Bodie & Ryker.

Let’s Paint!

Course Description: This is a congenial group with no pressure or “must do.” Each week is a different subject, with photographs or painted examples.

Notes: This is a seven weeks’ course, beginning January 16 and ending with examples of our work at Final Follies.

Class Leader Bio(s): Dan and Donna are members of the Arts and Design Society and the Emerald Coast Plein Air Painters, and they work mainly in watercolor.

Kindness Rocks - Rock Painting with Trish

Course Description: Using acrylic paints, mixing colors, gluing accessories to rocks, at the end of the course, each student will have decorative rocks which they can keep or give to someone.

Notes: Rocks, paints and brushes will be provided the first day. If students want to continue, they will need to buy some 2 oz. acrylic paints and a few brushes. Note: Such paints can be purchased at any hobby store (Michael's, Jo-Ann's) as can a variety of brushes.

Class Leader Bio(s): Trish Rowe has been painting rocks for several years now. She finds it to be fun and not as intimidating as a canvas. She has experimented with various techniques and is self-taught.

Mindful Art Therapy

Course Description: Art therapy is a therapeutic technique that uses your creativity and artistic mediums to encourage self-expression, emotional processing and psychological healing. You do not have to be an artist or have artistic talent. The primary goal of art therapy is not for you to become an artist, rather more about mindful art as an expression. Helping deal with anxiety, depression, loss, trauma. Another way of coping through artistic means.

Notes: $20 materials fee

Class Leader Bio(s): Karen Butler is an Air Force Veteran and local artist, certified in Art Therapy, with experience in a variety of artistic mediums.

Happy Sewing Projects

Course Description: These happy projects are planned to advance you sewing skills! We will complete a small project each class. Projects (7 total) may include: 10-minute table runner, fabric basket, phone holder, project organizer, zipper pouch, and a couple more TBA. Classroom sewing machines and other basic tools will be provided by Stitcher’s Quest during class.

Notes: This is a 7-week class meeting January 18, 25, February 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. A supply fee of $80 will be collected at first class to cover fabric, thread, batting & patterns. Classroom machines will be provided. Students should bring a pair of sewing scissors, a seam ripper, and sewing pins. Home access to a sewing machine to finish homework is suggested or you may stay until 5:00 on class days to use classroom machines. Best parking is located on west side (back) of Santa Rosa Mall – use entrance next to ‘Hibbett Sports’.

Class Leader Bio(s): Barb Tyler has been sewing all her life and enjoys quilting and machine embroidery. She has taught both beginning quilting and bag-making classes. In her non-quilting time, she enjoys traveling and camping. She has spent the past two summers working at a quilt shop in Alaska.
